Alternative Rome

From 525

All roads lead to Rome. There you will find everything you need for a modern city and feel the attraction of its history. A brilliant architectural mosaic from the ruins of the Roman Empire, the Renaissance and the Baroque buildings is spread out in the visitor's eyes. No matter how hard we try to put it into words, the beauty of this city is not described and we urge you to discover it for yourself. A city-museum, with magnificent monuments that testify to its magnificence and have justifiably given it the title of "Eternal City".

Daily programm :

Day 1 (16/11): Athens - Rome
Our appointment is at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport for the morning flight to Rome. After a beautiful flight we land at Leonardo da Vinci Airport where our luxurious coach will be waiting for us. Our first stop for a short visit was the church of Jubilee or the merciful God the Father. Like a three-quarter boat with its three sails blown by the wind, this new church leads believers to the new millennium. It's a project by American Architect Richard Meier that was completed in 2003. Of course we will go somewhere next to our first cappuccino.
The journey to the city of dreams begins immediately with the dream factory, as set up by Fellini, Scola, Wertmiller, and other great post-war filmmakers. It's an intrusion into the suburbs of Cinecitta, the city of cinema. Our visit will show us the studios that have shot the world's most important films from 1937 to the present, all stages of a film's production, the personal belongings and notes of the great directors. We will then walk and tour three gigantic scenes of ancient Rome, Florence in 1400 and Jerusalem in the years of Christ. Finally in the cozy cafe-shop, we will have a little rest and buy our little ones. From the dream of cinema we will visit the famous Verano where the stars of Italian cinema Marcello Mastrogianni, Vittorio Gasman, Hugo Tonciaci and others sleep eternally. The peace and tranquility of this area will be replaced by the life and movement of the San Lorenzo student district. We will walk through its streets full of student worlds and after taking a look at the former Cerere pasta factory (the factory has been turned into a studio for Italian artists at the Fine Arts School and hosts a lovely restaurant on the ground floor) a more gourmet version of Roman cuisine.
For now we will try our first meal of traditional Trattoria Pommidoro. Very close to the former SAID chocolate factory. After admiring the place we will drink our coffee with the necessary chocolates.
The coach will wait for us to take us to our hotel (4 * Hotel Villafranca Roma or similar) in central Rome (50 meters from Castro Pretorio Metro). The afternoon is free for strolls and shopping in the center. We will be back at the hotel again at 21:00 (for anyone who wishes) for dinner.

Day 2 (17/11): Rome (Bus to Porta Portese)
Today is Sunday and that means Porta Portese - the Rome bazaar. So we'll haggle in the morning. Next to us is Trastevere the Artist's Quarter and Santa Maria Maggiore, the church we must see. We will then stroll through its narrow streets and end up at Roma Sparita for a Traditional Romantic Trot.
Free lunch and afternoon walks and coffee in Trastevere, Lungotevere and Isola Tiberina. Optional pizza in the evening (10-15 €) near our hotel.

Day 3 (18/11): Rome
In the morning after a good breakfast we will start for a walk in the center of Rome by bus. We will see the Stazione Termini train station, Piazza Republica, via Nazionale, Piazza Venezia, Fori Imperiali, Colosseo, Circo Massimo, Therme di Caracala, Pyramide and we will reach Eur, the new capital of Mussolini . After crossing Colosseum with our coaches and the ministries symbols of neo-fascist architecture we will find ourselves right next to the modern architecture of the huge multinational buildings. We will end up for a short walk on the artificial pond that connects the two worlds of yesterday with today.
Our next destination is the Testaccio working district. We will visit its central market and take a look at the Macro Art Center (former Rome slaughterhouse). In the adjoining Garbatela district lies a paradise for gastronomy lovers, EATLY, in a three-storey industrial building formerly a station of Ostiense. This multicolored gathering of butcher, dairy, grocery store, fisherman, small brewery, fresh pasta baker, bakery, pastry shop, ice cream shop, cafe, wine bar, bookstore, street food and all kinds of cuisine, cuisine traditional trattoria, pizzeria, and even a gourmet restaurant. As you understand this is the happy destination for us. After a short tour we will be free to swim in the deep waters of the Italian gastronomy of the Italian design and marketing of their products where our neighbors are masters. Of course everyone will choose the kind of food of their liking and sweet is meant.
Our coach will take care of us.
